ABOUT CAVSCONNECT:
CavsConnect is the official online multimedia publication of Coral Gables Senior High School and a proud part of the Communication Arts, Film, and Digital Media (CAF&DM) Academy. Since its founding during the 2012-2013 school year, CavsConnect has served as a dynamic platform for student voices, delivering relevant news and information to our students, faculty, staff, and greater community.
Students on the CavsConnect team have the creative freedom to explore journalism in multiple forms — writing articles, capturing photography, managing social media content, and even producing video projects. This hands-on experience allows students to develop skills in storytelling, digital media, and communication while covering the people, events, and issues that matter most to our school community.
The creation of our student-run news site was a journey marked by both challenges and milestones. Just seven months after launching in 2012-2013, CavsConnect earned an All Florida rating, a testament to the dedication of our student journalists. We owe special thanks to Tom and Jason at School Newspapers Online for their technical expertise, guidance, and ongoing support in keeping our site running smoothly.
Over the years, CavsConnect has earned numerous accolades. In the 2019-2020 school year, we made history as the first Florida publication — and one of just 23 nationwide — to be recognized as a Distinguished Site by our platform provider, School Newspapers Online (SNO). CavsConnect has consistently received All Florida and Sunshine Standout honors from the Florida Scholastic Press Association, cementing our status as the top student news site in the state for multiple years. Additionally, in 2020-2021, CavsConnect was honored as a National Scholastic Press Association Pacemaker Finalist, one of the highest recognitions in student journalism.
ADVERTISE WITH US:
CavsConnect is a completely self-funded endeavor and relies on donations and fundraising to continue. We offer a variety of affordable advertising opportunities for businesses, large and small, which help us to fund our program. Advertisements will be seen by a student population of approximately 3,500 teenagers age 13-18 and their parents/guardians, a faculty and staff population of over 200 adults, and the Coral Gables community at large. USE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION:
At the beginning of each academic year, all students/parents are given a media form which provides information on how individual student information will be used. This privacy policy allows for students to be interviewed, photographed, and/or video taped for school journalistic use. This form also allows for student names to be printed in student media. Should you wish for your name, photo, or likeness not to appear on CavsConnect, please make sure to indicate your decision on the media form given out at the beginning of the year. In the event that you were not able to turn in your form and find issue with any representation of your information that appears on CavsConnect, please e-mail gablescavsconnect@gmail.com so that we may address the issue immediately.
