ABOUT
CAVSCONNECT:
CavsConnect is the student news site of Coral Gables Senior High School and is part of the Communication Arts, Film, and Digital Media (CAF&DM) Academy. Founded during the 2012-2013 school year, CavsConnect strives to bring relevant news and information to our students, faculty, staff, and community.
The journey in creating a student news site was a long one; filled with triumphs, setbacks and eventually success. During the 2012-2013 school year, after just seven months of being up and running, we received an All Florida rating. We would never have gotten our site running so efficiently and seamlessly without the help of Tom & Jason at School Newspapers Online. They have been instrumental in allowing our student media to shine by handling all the nitty gritty technical aspects of web design and content management. We thank Tom & Jason for their skill, patience, and wonderful service.
Throughout the years we have received many recognitions. During the 2019-2020 school year, we were recognized as a ‘Distinguished Site’ by our platform provider, School Newspapers Online (SNO). This exciting news made us the first publication in Florida, and one of 23 publications nationwide, to be crowned a Distinguished Site. Additionally, CavsConnect was awarded All Florida and Sunshine Standout by the Florida Scholastic Press Association, making us the top student news site in the state of Florida for the last two years. During the 2020-2021 school year, CavsConnect was also recognized as a National Scholastic Press Association Pacemaker Finalist.
CAVSTV:
On our campus, students are given the creative liberty to explore new ways to innovate and create, which is exactly what we at CavsTV aim to do. As part of the Communication, Arts, Film and Digital Media (CAF&DM) Academy, CavsTV will serve as a multimedia publication. Our publication will revolve around videography, photography, podcasts, social media and digital design. CavsTV aims to provide relevant news and information to our students, faculty, staff, and community using a medium other than writing. When given the opportunity to undertake such an exciting journey of advising, informing and entertaining our student body, none of us hesitated to embrace it. This new chapter includes a lot of work and long hours for everyone, nonetheless, we do it not just for the people around us, but all individuals who can access this platform. We are eager to see where this journey takes us and what we can accomplish.
ADVERTISE WITH US:
CavsConnect is a completely self-funded endeavor and relies on donations and fundraising to continue. We offer a variety of affordable advertising opportunities for businesses, large and small, which help us to fund our program. Advertisements will be seen by a student population of approximately 3,500 teenagers age 13-18 and their parents/guardians, a faculty and staff population of over 200 adults, and the Coral Gables community at large. Contact us at [email protected] to find out more about rates and options.

Should you wish for your name, photo, or likeness not to appear on CavsConnect, please make sure to indicate your decision on the media form given out at the beginning of the year.
