Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak unite for one of the most long awaited albums of 2021. In February, the duo announced they would come together as Silk Sonic and release an album. Knowing the talent both artists hold individually, fans desperately awaited their upcoming music.

Silk Sonic eventually released three singles before dropping “An Evening With Silk Sonic,” each highly anticipated as this was the first time fans heard new music from either artist since 2019. A nine track album put together by Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, the duo explores the human emotions that come with intimate relationships. Here are our thoughts on three of the album’s tracks.

“When they announced that they were coming together, I couldn’t wait for their music,” senior Daniel Michel said.

Leave The Door Open

Rating: A+

Released in March, “Leave The Door Open” was Silk Sonic’s debut as a duo. It peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts and rightfully so. The title of the track and main portion of the chorus, “Leave The Door Open” is a metaphor for the door being left open on love, potentially referencing an ex-lover that they ready to end things with. From beginning to end, Silk Sonic sing their hearts out, literally and metaphorically. Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak bounce mesmerizing vocals off of each other for four minutes, resulting in an almost flawless song.

“I swear Leave The Door Open is the closest thing to a perfect song,” senior Leo Lopez said.

Smokin Out The Window

Rating: A-

The third and final single before releasing the album, “Smokin Out The Window” is a tale of Silk Sonic’s problematic relationships. Silk Sonic cry aloud at their investment, both financially and emotionally into a faulty relationship. This came as a surprise, as the duo are known for their intimate, loving songs. Silk Sonic is now “Smokin Out The Window” from all the stress toxic relationships have put them through. After a legendary run of three singles, “Smokin Out The Window,” set the stage for one of the most highly anticipated albums of the last year.

Fly As Me

Rating: B+

Silk Sonic finally let loose and put their confidence on full display on the third track of the album, “Fly As Me.” Silk Sonic go on a three minute rant revolving around the fact that their lovers deserve to be with someone as “fly” as them. The dynamic duo metaphorically flexes their muscles and bathe in their contagious self-confidence.Their assertiveness in their “flyness” is admirable, and makes “Fly As Me” a standout track on the album.

Two talented solo artists came together to create a nine track album under the name Silk Sonic. With clever lyrics, astounding vocals and impeccable choice of instrumental accompaniments, “An Evening With Silk Sonic” is the closest thing to perfection in the last year.
