Dates to Remember!
- Pick up attendance appeals: April 22 – MAY 1
- Turn in Attendance appeals: May 2
- Pick up Cap and Gown: May 15-23
- Graduation: May 27 at 2:00PM
Getting ready for Graduation:
First you must pick up your cap and gown! They will be distributed on May 15-23 during first period, both lunches, before and after school.
You may not be able to receive your cap and gown if you
1) Have a Pink Card or
2) owe fees to the school, including books.
Deadline for Pink Cards is May 2.
3) have not completed the senior exit survey found at the top of your student portal in orange.
4) have not completed the CAP Survey found at https://surveymonkey.com/s/XG6Q87T
The Processional Order
When you arrive at UM, you must line up in alphabetical order within your academies. The procession will consist of 2 lines set up by academy. NHS members will march in the front of their academy.
Guests
EVERYONE (but the Graduate) MUST HAVE A TICKET! Each student will receive 4 tickets from student activities. If you sold the extra 6 magazines in the sale, you will receive two EXTRA tickets. Student Activities does NOT have Extra Tickets!
You need to remind your parents that cameras and recording devices are not allowed at commencement. There will be a professional photographer to take pictures of you on stage and as you exit the stage. Proofs of graduation pictures will be mailed to your house for purchase. They may also be seen on www.bobknightphoto.com the following day. Also, no bull horns, fog horns, or cheering sections.
Things to know for the Graduates
Dress Code: Gentlemen must wear a white shirt with a colored neck tie, dark trousers, dark dress shoes, and dress socks. Ladies should wear solid pastel colored dresses, no shorter than knee length; however, you may wear dress pants should you desire. Heels are suggested. Students cannot carry any items with them, including purses, cameras, cell phones, or any object that will detract from the event itself.
Arrival: Graduates should arrive at UM no later than 1:00 PM. You must arrive completely dressed. Please assemble in your assigned areas and be properly lined up by 1:30 PM. IF YOU ARE LATE TO GRADUATION YOU WILL NOT WALK! The ceremony will begin at 2:00 PM.
Your Cap and Gown: Your cap must be straight and not tilted. The top of the cap should be parallel to the floor. Your tassel is to be worn on the RIGHT side. At the appropriate time, all graduates will be instructed to switch the tassel during the ceremony.
Losing your rented Attire: Graduates should not misplace tassels. Ladies should make sure that you wear your gown collar. Gentlemen should not wear the gown collars, but wear a collared dress shirt. Once again, you must arrive at graduation properly dressed.
To ALL participating seniors: If you are involved in any incidents at graduation your diploma will be pulled.

To Arrive:
- From school on Le Jeune, make a right on to Ponce and then make a right at the U of M entrance gate.
The Program:
The processional sets the tone for the entire program. Please NO GUM chewing! March at one-arms length from the person in front of you. Once you reach the row where you will sit, follow instructions given to you by the student assistants. Move quickly down the row to your seat. Please do not skip seats, save seats, or switch seats. Remain standing, facing foreword until it is time to sit together as a class. The processional will take about 10 minutes.
The Ceremony:
The National Anthem will be sung once all the graduates are in place. After the Anthem, all of the graduates will sit at the same time.
Receiving Diploma Covers:
Speakers will be announced, including Mr. Costa, who will introduce the platform guests. He will then announce when graduates are to come to receive their diploma. Graduates will present the name cards to Ms. Hoffman. Once she calls your name, proceed across the stage shake Mr. Costa’s hand along with the platform guests take your picture and return to your seat.
Turning the tassel:
Once all the names have been called, Mr. Costa and the Senior Class President will meet at the podium. All the graduates will stand. Once it is announced, you will turn your tassel to the left and remain standing.
Closing:
Mr. Costa will make the closing remarks and as soon as he returns to his seat, the recessional will commence. Graduates will then leave the hall. Once outside, you will continue to the back of the hall to turn in the gown. You will turn in the gown as you exit the ceremony. In addition, when picking up your cap and gown in the activities office, your name will be written in the lining of your cap. Please take note, your diploma will be held if your cap is thrown during graduation.
Special Note:
Graduates who picked up their cap and gown and did not participate in the program, MUST return them to the school. A special handling fee of $6.00 must be paid when the cap and gown are turned in at school. Diplomas for these graduates will be available at school.
NOTE: Please take your pictures in your cap and gown before the ceremony; you will not have the chance after the ceremony.
REMEMBER YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR CAP AND GOWN IF YOU DON’T TAKE THE SENIOR EXIT SUVEY AND THE CAP SURVEY!
