Seniors who were accepted to four-year colleges and universities had an opportunity on April 14 to win a college starter packages, provided by a local Bed Bath and Beyond. In partnership with the Coral Gables Community Foundation, Bed Bath and Beyond, Diane Landsberg, The Good360, Scott Richey and the Rotary Club of Miami donated an assortment of dorm supplies (such as towels, mats, bedding, pillows) to the Class of 2016. These college-ready bundles were a first time addition to Gables’ annual College Signing, where 20 were distributed and another 10 were given to seniors who had received scholarships through the Coral Gables Community Foundation. The event, while serving to aid seniors in their transition to college, was also a celebratory moment where students were able to play elementary school games with one another.
“I was one of the fortunate seniors who won a college care package. It definitely made College Signing even better because not only was I able to spend quality time with my close friends, but I luckily won some bedding and other must-haves that I won’t have to stress over when moving time comes around. I’m so thankful to the donors,” senior Barbara Jimenez said.
Landsberg and Richey both played crucial roles in helping get these items donated, all in an effort to assist students in need. As the event was a success, with the college bundles only adding to its splendor, they were not taken for granted! The senior class members expressed great amounts of gratitude and enjoyed one of their last senior year events with additional flare!
