Speaking with Carla Steighorst, one can infer that she is definitely a well-rounded student. Her life basically screams out usual IB student.
From swimming laps in the fall and early winter to shooting tennis balls come late winter and early spring, her athletic skills are ones that deserve to be recognized. She proudly represents Gables National Honor Society and International Baccalearate Honor society. Adding to that, Steighosrt involves herself in an out of school tennis club team, JTT. Attends youth group and is for the first year a Sony Open ball person.
This past summer, Carla had a very moving trip she describes as a life changing experience. Carla has been to Mission trips just a bit up north in Tallahassee but she had the opportunity to visit Puerto Rico. She had visited this beautiful island before, but not with the intention to try to better the rural areas of this country.
“This experience really was life-change, I had the opportunity to visit Puerto Rico with my Youth group and also I was allowed to bring my best friend which was great.”
She hopes to pursue these mission trips as a yearly event. She did manual labor, met some great children, and was able to touch of the lives of a great number of families. Carla should be an inspiration to change the situations or possibly lives of families during these hard times, while simultaneously being an academically excellent student.
