2024-2025 Captain
Junior Melissa Hernandez
"Joining the cheer team during my sophomore year, I was excited but at first it wasn't something I necessarily wanted but once Spirit Officer tryouts started, I realized I wanted more. Getting Spirit Officer sparked something in me and it made me feel like more than a cheerleader, it became a part of me. Throughout the season I worked on becoming captain by preparing my speech and routine. I was sitting in my biology class and then, when I least expected it, the senior cheerleaders walked in and announced that I was captain. I was shaking and was beyond excited. If you told me I was captain of the cheer team, I wouldn't have believed you," junior Melissa Hernandez said.
The role of captain requires the cheerleader to have leadership skills, the ability to control a crowd, maturity and kindness. As captain, the cheerleader will help choreograph dances, jumps and music for pep rallies.
"I see becoming captain as a passing of a torch, I am going to build off of what the old captains did. I believe in social hierarchy and I want to work on unity, respect and jumps. I want to make the team feel like a family because for me, going to practice is like a breath of fresh air and I want people to feel the same way I do," junior Melissa Hernandez said.
