The Coral Gables Cavaliers took on the Miami High Stings on October 18th at Curtis Park in a tight GMAC matchup. After six years without a victory over the Stings, the Cavaliers finally broke the streak, securing a 19-14 win. Zion Chery scored the winning touchdown, sealing the victory for Gables. Strong defensive play and key offensive moments helped the Cavaliers come out on top in this hard-fought contest. We spoke with team captains Zion Chery and Evan Noval, as well as the Cavaliers’ defensive coach, to get their thoughts on the big win. This crucial GMAC victory gives the Cavs a much-needed boost as they look ahead to the rest of the season.

Samira Martinez is a senior and a part of the Visual Performing Arts program here at Gables. She is coming into her third year in CavsConnect and her first as Social Media Editor. She joined CavsConnect to improve her social media management skills, seeing as she would like to pursue that in college. Apart from CavsConnect she is also Co-Captain of the Cavaliers Cheerleading Team. Samira loves music. Some of her favorite artists consist of Taylor Swift, Fleetwood Mac, Jeff Buckley and The Strokes. She is a big classic rock fan and considers music something she uses to connect with people. She’s very social and loves filming, interviewing and following fun trends on tik tok. She’s excited to get to know her new staff members and can't wait to come up with new ideas for our CavsConnect Instagram.
Gloria Porro, CavsConnect Managing Editor
Gloria “Gigi” Porro is a junior in the International Baccalaureate program at Coral Gables Senior High. She strives to maintain her years of high school strong by sustaining a high-grade point average and being a contributing member of Cavsconnect as the Managing Editor. She is excited to lend a hand to her fellow Cavsconnect crew as she adores taking photos and videos around campus. She has joined many clubs because she loves to be involved with her school community including being the Social Media manager of International Baccalaureate Honor Society and becoming a part of Health Information Project this upcoming year. In her free time, she enjoys going to the beach and taking pictures of her and her friends together. She spent her summer working as a camp counselor and traveling with her friends. She plans to continue being a member of the girls soccer team, track team, and hopefully join the cross country team as she enjoys running. She is open to any new opportunities that may come her way and is so happy to be a part of this loving production.
