As the lights in the auditorium went black, anticipation grew throughout the crowd. Although it only lasted approximately 45 minutes, the pep rally demonstrated the students’ excitement and pride for their football team, all in preparation for the Columbus versus Gables game at 7:30 p.m. at Tropical Park.
The pep rally kicked off with the introduction of Power 96 by coanchors Alejandro Arzola and Holden Payne as the official DJs of the event. Similar to prior pep rallies, this one included performances by Color Guard, Cheerleaders, Band, Sisters With Attitude and Gablettes, all which highlighted the numerous talents at Gables.
To reassure the attendees that Gables was destined to win the Columbus game, Principal Costa gave an inspiring speech about Cavalier pride. With the help of TV Production’s Javier Cobas, a new video was showcased. The video footage documented past games versus Columbus, which ended both disappointedly and ecstatically.
Furthermore, Power 96 held a relay race composed of students from each grade level. All 5 selected students in the same grade level had to finish a relay course. The Class of 2015 showed their rulership by winning the race and acquiring the grand prize, a discount at Wendy’s. Another special appearance was made by Channel 4 News as Holden Payne encouraged the crowd to cheer for the cameras.
Regardless of the outcome of the game, Coral Gables Senior High School has one thing that every school doesn’t: a team behind the team. We may not have won this game, but the Cavalier spirit continues on. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for Gable’s next game!
