- “At least 25 killed as plane hits bridge, crashes in Taipei River”
A dash cam captured the exact moment when TransAsia Airways flight crashed into Taiwanriver on the way to the Chinese province of Ximen. 26 people were confirmed dead, 15 injured, and 17 are reported to be missing. If you want to see the shocking video or read more about the incident, click here.
- “Jordanian pilot killed by ISIS”
The Islamic State allegedly burned alive 26 year old pilot, Lt. Kasasbeh, as a retaliation for failed exchange of Japanese hostage, Kenji Goto, for failed al-Qaeda suicide bomber, Sajida al-Rishawi. Click here to learn more.
- “Shelling kills 4 at Ukraine hospital”
A shelling damaged a hospital and schools in Ukraine’s Kirov district. The conflict between Ukrainian forces and pro-Russian separatists are the cause for the 224 killed and the 550 injured in the month of January alone. Read more about the conflict in Ukraine here.
- “‘Mass death sentences’ for 183 in Egypt”
On Monday, Feb. 2, 183 Egyptians were sentenced to death for having killed 11 police officers and two civilians in Aug. 2013. Read more here.
Domestic Affairs
- Pope Francis will visit Congress
Pope Francis accepted an invitation to address a joint meeting of Congress. The pope will visit the United States on September and expects to visit New York and Philadelphia. Full Article here.
- “Parents shot by their toddler charged with child abuse”
On Saturday, Jan. 31 a 3 year old shot both of his parents in a New Mexico motel room. The child obtained a 0.45 calibre gun from his mother’s purse and fired, injuring both of his parents. The father is being charged because “he is a convicted felon and not allowed to be around guns.” The toddler and his 2-year-old sister are being held in temporary custody by the Children’s Youth and families department.
- “Delta pilot locked out of cockpit during landing”
When a pilot was taking a bathroom break, he was locked out of the cockpit due to a ‘door malfunction’. Thankfully, the copilot was able to land the plane. See more here.
- “The real reason for the measles outbreak”
“Vaccine Hesitancy” or the tendency to avoid vaccinating kids has risen over the past years. Parents that refuse to vaccinate their kids take a risk by not protecting their children from certain preventable diseases such as measles.
