Class of 2017 Officially Inducted into NHS
Apr 16, 2015
The National Honor Society (NHS) hosted their annual NHS Induction on Wednesday, Apr. 15 at 6:30 pm in the auditorium where NHS members who have completed their community service requirements were inducted into the prestigious nationwide club.
The induction was hosted by seniors Alexander Duran and Brooke Donner, the co-presidents of NHS, along with the rest the club’s board members. Duran and Donner kicked off the event by introducing the organization’s goal of honoring students worthy of excellence and by acknowledging the achievements of its members. Members of NHS completed over eighteen-thousand hours of community service which is an outstanding feat.
“The NHS induction ceremony is a ceremony that honors the members who have just completed all their hours and fulfilled all the requirements for the year and they are really being inducted into the club,” senior Brooke Donner said.
Inductees were congratulated by Ron Migill, the ceremony’s keynote speaker, who is an internationally recognized zoological authority who has traveled around the world working with wildlife for over thirty years and as well as an award winning photographer and documentary producer. Migill provided words of encouragement to NHS members and emphasized the importance of finding your passion. Migill also told members helpful advice he wished he knew when he was in high school.
As the evening progressed, the NHS members that were being inducted were called and went on stage in order to do the NHS tradition of lighting a candle. The candle represents the core values of NHS which are scholarship, character, service, and leadership. After the members were inducted, it was time for next year’s NHS board to be called announced.
“It felt great to be able to join such a prestigious club like that and its like being introduced to a new family. I am elated to be on next years board and I expect for us to continue doing the great things NHS has done this year,” sophomore Sabrina Fiske said.
The ceremony came to an end after Duran and Donner gave their best wishes to next year’s board since they will be continuing their success as they enter college and reminisced about the wonderful experiences they made with NHS. Just before leaving, those who attended the induction came together to sing our Alma Mater as well as stop by the snack table.
