May 11, 2015
According to BBC World News, May 8, 2015 a Pakistani army helicopter crashed in the mountainous area of north Pakistan, hitting a school building; no children were in class at the time. Seven people died, including ambassadors from the Philippines and Norway, the wives of the Indonesian and Malaysian envoys, two pilots and a crew member. Five others were injured, including the Polish and Dutch ambassadors.
IN agreement to Dawn News, the downed helicopter was one of three, carrying foreign nationals to the inauguration of a ski chairlift, built in the Naltar resort in northern Pakistan, home to Olympian skiers and 95% of the skiers of the country. The ski lift donated by The Swiss Ski Resorts of Villers Company is expected to be a great promotion of tourism and give the country a much needed economic boost.
The cause of the fatal crash remains unknown. The Taliban claimed to be behind the attack in an attempt to assassinate the Pakastani prime minister. However, the area is not a Taliban strong hold and Pakistani ministers said the crash was due to a technical issue. Many of the same model helicopters have been reported faulty and have crashed in recent years.
