A Second Earthquake Has Hit Nepal
May 13, 2015
A second major earthquake hit Nepal just two weeks after the first. It had a magnitude of 7.3 and was followed by six aftershocks, all with a magnitude of 5.0 or higher. It has killed at least 48 people and injured 1,000. It hit on May 12 approx. 47 miles east of Katmandu and close to Nepal’s border with China. The earthquake was felt in Northern India, Tibet and Bangladesh, as well as Nepal. Indian authorities are confirming 16 people are dead.
There have been a number of reported landslides in the area. More buildings have fallen in the May quake compared to the April one. Rescue helicopters have been sent to the areas with the most need. Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has issued statements asking all those who helped in the April earthquake “to once again extend your helping hand.”
