Roads Melt in India
May 28, 2015
India, one of the hottest places on the planet, has set a new excruciating limit. The last 10 days (May 18-28, 2015) have reached some of the hottest temperatures ever recorded in the area. On Wednesday, temperatures hit 116.6 degrees Fahrenheit, according to CNN. Change in climate patterns caused by the burning of fossil fuels has warmed India significantly since the early 20th century; this combined with the loo (hot) winds from Pakistan and northwest India, can dry out the region’s temperature, causing it to skyrocket. Four hundred million people do not have access to electricity, which means no air conditioning or refrigeration. According to government officials, the wave has killed over 1,100 people. Indians are hoping for a monsoon by the end of the week to cool down temperatures.
