Breakfast, All Day, Everyday
Oct 8, 2015
After years of complaining, demanding and begging McDonald customers are finally having it their way and their lovin’ it! On Tuesday, Oct. 6, McDonald finally let go of their infamously strict breakfast hours, making it known that brunch is now acceptable.
McDonald’s all day breakfast promotion was fueled by their competition with recently more popular food-chain restaurant like Chipotle and Panera Bread that have cost McDonolds many of their customers. As of late healthier food initiatives have become more popular and as a result fast food restaurants have paid the price. In response, McDonald decided on finally giving their dwindling customers what they’ve been asking for: McMuffins around the clock.
However, it’s not always as simple as it seems. Although McDonolds eliminates its 4 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. rule, it has not conformed to all its customers request and has limited the items on the breakfast menu. The result is what is now being known as the Biscuit-McMuffin line that separates the south from the north. McDonalds decided that serving both biscuit and McMuffins all day could present itself as a challenge and so decided that biscuits would be served in the south and egg McMuffins in the north. This has resulted in several controversy but McDonalds has done little to nothing to quiet the complaints.
“I don’t think it’s a good idea to have breakfast all day, having previously worked in McDonolds I know how long it takes to prepare breakfast. It’s more than four minutes. Considering the fact that it’s going to be an all day thing, it limits customers to options and also the workers because they have to struggle and try to make both breakfast and lunch at the same time,” senior Tatiana Anatay said.
Despite the loss of breakfast items, McDonald’s 24/7 breakfast promotion has won them the attention of both its current and former customers. People who’ve never eaten McDonalds breakfast are now trying it just because its at their convenience. When time used to play a restriction for McDonalds, it is now the reason for its most sells.
