On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia harshly cut down the oil prices it charges Europe for crude oil. This move created problems between Iran and Saudi Arabia. The supreme leader of Iran asked for the overthrow of the Saudi government, which made it furious, and accused the Islamic Republic of interfering in the kingdom’s internal affairs. The impact of Saudi Arabia’s decision to drop high oil prices has been felt all around the world – from Aberdeen and Alberta to Stavanger and Houston.

“Our nation really needs to stop trying to resolve everything with violence. In reality, we are not fixing anything with violence – we are just making it worse. Hopefully Saudi Arabia can notice that and all of the other countries,” freshman Jazmin Gonzalez said.

Saudi Arabia cut diplomatic ties with Iran when they executed 47 people for terrorism, including the Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr. Iran is furious with Saudi Arabia and believes that it will cost them very dearly for killing Nimr al-Nimr. Iran’s president, Hassan Rouhani, said that the attack on the Saudi embassy was unforgivable, and urged the capture of the perpetrators of this terrorism attack.

The tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran has set back America from wanting to be involved in this dilemma. America doesn’t want to be involved in the religion or any disputes that these Islamic states might have.

“Saudi Arabia’s actions regarding the 47 people was awful and unnecessary. Violence and attacks of terrorism are not the answer –  they only worsen the situation. Our nation needs to learn how to deal with situations such as this one without bringing harm to innocents,” freshman Belle Rojas said.

Saudi Arabia and Iran must fix their problems soon and stop the bickering; if they don’t, we can be looking at another war sometime soon. The actions Saudi Arabia made towards Iran in the awful terrorism attack was definitely an act of war.
