On April 19, the class of 2016 excitedly ran out on the the field to enjoy a day full of sun, inflatables and delicious food. To the seniors, this long-awaited event was their last good-bye before graduation, and they all made sure to enjoy it as much as possible.

The seniors started off their day with bagels and orange juice in the auditorium where they watched the movie “The Bucket List” and received water bottles with the Coral Gables High seal, another memorabilia of their time in high school. At 10 a.m., the seniors finally went out to the field in their swimsuits where they found tents and umbrellas to lay their towels under and take a break before going to the inflatables. As the day continued, an increasing number of students were found soaked from the water slide or the inflatable full of waist-high foam where foam fights ensued. Students also took advantage of the sunny day by playing soccer or frisbee with their friends.

“I really enjoyed senior picnic, it was a fun experience with my friends [and] I got to take a break from school. The games they had and the different activities kept everyone busy and having fun,” senior Iomara Morejon said.

When Shake Shack arrived, students quickly lined up to get their delicious burgers and take a break. Refreshments such as lemonade and snacks like fruit pops and sugars cookies were also set out all day. As the day came to an end, the DJ hosted various games such as tug-of-war, a sack race, and a hula hoop contest. Finally, the seniors came together for a dance party to reminisce all the dancing that took place at prom.

“Senior picnic was really fun, my overall experience was actually really great. It was a bittersweet moment for me. It was bitter because it was the last major senior event together, but it was sweet because I got to spend my last major event with the people who’ve been with me all four years,” senior Tatiana Taylor said.

Senior Picnic was extremely successful and a fun way for seniors to hang out with their friends at a school event for one last time, all while getting out of class!
