Glitch Prevents PlayStation 5 Purchases
Nov 25, 2020
After the release of the new PlayStation 5 by Sony and Microsoft, bugs and glitches prevented many fans from being able to purchase the device. Because of the regulation set in place for the pandemic, stores all over the world had to sell these consoles online compared to the traditional method of allowing people to shop in stores. This led to complications and resulted in players being unable to purchase these consoles.
On the launch date, websites such as Walmart and Best Buy experienced bugs and glitches because of the influx of people accessing the website. This led to people ordering the console but not receiving their purchase because of the number of people ordering at the same time. Twitter users claimed to have been unable to access these sites or had the console removed from their cart.
Sony announced their new console back in September, which was advertised to perform much better than the previous version of the PlayStation. Gamers all over the world had long awaited the release of the new consoles, seeing that the last release was back in 2013. Sony claimed that almost all games from the older model would be compatible with the PS5, meaning players with the PS4 were able to switch to the new console easily. With new games on the horizon such as Marvel’s Spider Man: Miles Morales, fans were eager to purchase the new Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X.
As for the Xbox Series X, the PS5’s competition, bugs and glitches were not reported as much with players attempting to purchase it. The PS5 was much more popular on the release date because of the single-player exclusives that they receive from companies such as Activision and FromSoftware Inc. With these exclusives, the PS5 will have games such as God of War: Ragnarok, Hogwarts Legacy and exclusive content for Call of Duty: Cold War. Most players are excited for the new installment in the Spider-Man series seeing that the older game has sold over 20 million copies worldwide.
“I personally think the PS5 is better than the Xbox Series X, but they are both still good for their price. The PS5 is a bigger size than expected though,” junior Oliver Michel said.
Sony is selling the new consoles for $500, the same price as the Xbox Series X. However, the latter has gained more popularity leading to the crashing of these websites. After the initial release date on Nov. 12, both consoles have already sold out and are expected to restock on Nov. 19.
After multiple restocks from Walmart, customers went to Twitter to report these errors. It seemed as if there were more problems arising as the consoles were being restocked. Some were saying that the “Add to Cart” button was not working while others reported not being able to check out. Walmart has not fixed its websites and has yet to announce any improvements to their websites.
