Brightly colored streamers hung from the pavilion and the scent of seasoned nachos filled the air as the senior class gathered for “Nacho Average Senior” treat day. Hosted in the 6000 pavilion on Nov. 7 during both first and second lunch, the event offered seniors a much-needed break, blending food, music and festivity into a memorable celebration for the Class of 2025.
Students from Ms. D’Alemberte and Ms. Camacho’s classes planned and set up the vibrant scene, alongside members of Student Activities. Together, they worked to transform the pavilion into a festive gathering space, complete with colorful decorations and interactive games for seniors at Coral Gables Senior High to enjoy. Games included festive corn hole boards and an oversized Connect-Four game at the ready. The lively event helped seniors enjoy the company of their peers and remove themselves from the day’s routine.
“I had the entire Student Activities team working on set up, serving nachos and cleaning up. The event, ‘Nacho Average Seniors,’ was a huge success and people definitely enjoyed it. I had a plethora of people coming up to me saying they loved it and even a teacher suggested we do this more often. Not only was the food delicious with countless toppings, but the decorations turned out amazing, giving it that Mexican aesthetic we were going for. Overall an amazing treat day with many more to come,” senior Tiffany Beh said.
The centerpiece of the event was the nacho bar – a collaboration with Coyo Taco, who provided the food, that had seniors lining up to enjoy their long awaited snack. Crisp nacho chips created the foundation for the customizable treat and seniors were invited to craft their own tasty creations with a series of self-serve topping tables. Choices ranged from black beans, tangy pico de gallo and corn, to a wide array of sauces, including Chipotle sauce, guacamole and a classic tomato sauce.
“I really liked the decorations and the music playing in the event. The nachos were good, and I liked the toppings they had. It was nice that they had tables set up for us to be with our friends and enjoy the food,” senior Bruno Sanchez said.
Adding an extra layer of enjoyment, a photo booth was set up for seniors to capture moments with friends. Group photos and candid shots kept the pavilion buzzing with energy as students walked away with digital memories to commemorate one of their final treat days.
“Senior treat day from Coyo Taco was really fun and special for the seniors. I had a great time participating and setting up, everyone had an amazing time. I helped set up sophomore and senior year, and I love how it has grown and how the senior treat day is always good and something to look forward to,” senior Nathalie Schwart said.
In between the two lunch waves, students who helped with the event took a brief, but essential pause, to restock and prepare for round two. They refilled coolers, replenished chips and brought out more toppings to ensure that every senior, regardless of their lunch period, enjoyed a fully stocked nacho experience.
“This year’s senior treat day was great. The experience was very nice, seeing all the seniors come together and enjoy their time and food on their last year. The nachos were very good with all the options we had as toppings,” senior Brianna Rodriguez said.
While the food and games were undoubtedly the highlights, “Nacho Average Senior” was about more than just nachos. It was a moment of unity for the senior class, where students bonded over shared experiences and enjoyed each other’s company in a setting designed to celebrate their collective journey. Creating lasting memories, the Class of 2025 will continue to savor every moment of their final year together.
