The annual Senior Picnic, a cherished tradition of the senior class, continued to be a highlight of the school year as seniors enjoyed the company of close friends and the rivalry between teams. On Mar. 7, our class of 2025 seniors were brought together on the Gables field to enjoy a full day of fun, where they bonded and made lasting memories. With exciting games, music and delicious food, students enjoyed one of their last events as Cavaliers.
Starting at 7 a.m., the seniors met in the auditorium, where they were given wrist bands that they would later use to get food. Additionally, the students were given time to vote for senior superlatives and socialize with their friends before watching Ratatouille. The seniors were then released by groups so they could enjoy a Starbucks themed breakfast, featuring croissants, various pastries and coffee. While seniors enjoyed freshly baked goods, underclassmen part of student activities began preparing the field for the picnic games that were soon to come.
“The breakfast was honestly way better than I expected. I was able to customize my coffee in whatever way I wanted, and I thought that was pretty cool,” senior Chiara Ortiz de Rosas said.
Once all of the seniors returned from eating breakfast, the class of 2025 board tallied up the votes to determine the winners of the senior superlatives. The seniors nominated their fellow classmates, voting on personality and physical characteristics. After the votes were tallied, Mistresses of Ceremonies Tiffany Beh and Melissa Hernandez announced the winners of all the senior superlatives, rewarding each of them with a sash of their designated superlative. As the senior superlatives returned to the crowd after taking a group photo, the seniors were invited onto the stage to play Just Dance.
“It was like something out of a movie when they invited everyone on stage to play Just Dance. I also thought it was funny to watch all of my friends on stage trying to dance,” senior Cinthia Cruz said.
At 10:15 a.m., the seniors were released to the field to let the field games begin. The 11 Senior Picnic teams competed against each other in the wacky Olympics. The teams needed to complete obstacle courses, water balloon tosses, relay races and more to earn wins. After six rounds of games, the team that got the most wins would be declared the winner of the Wacky Olympics.
After all the points were added up, Team Bossman FC was announced as the winners of the Wacky Olympics. With their combined efforts, the team managed to win all six games.
“I am very proud of my team for putting forth their best efforts. I know when I look back at it today, not only will I recollect the memories I made, but relish the fact that we won,” senior Caitlin Savage said.
While the games were going on, the students who were not a part of a team were invited to bring blankets onto the field to enjoy the sun. They also played mini-games in between the competition, playing pickle ball, catch and an assortment of childhood games.
Once the games were over, the seniors were directed to the food truck where they would be eating lunch. The seniors got to select eating chicken tenders, burgers or a steak sandwich, all served with fries and a cold drink. Following lunch, the seniors cooled off by enjoying Kona Ice as a sweet treat to replenish their bodies after playing their hardest.
After the seniors finished eating their lunch, it was time to determine which team was the strongest by playing tug of war. Students took hold of the rope at each end and the 11 teams played against each other in a knockout championship. The losing teams were removed from the game and the winners moved on to the next round as the championship progressed.

Digging their heels into the ground, using all of their strength, team Uruguay and Incredible Unicorns were the last two teams to go up against each other. The two teams fought strategically, coordinating well-timed pulls and battling fatigue that was setting in second by second. With an impressive tug, the Incredible Unicorns swept the floor and were crowned the indisputable winners of tug of war.
“I had so much fun at senior picnic. It was nice to unwind and spend some time with all of my friends and participate in friendly competition,” senior Emma Rivera said.
In the end, the Senior Picnic was a pleasant way to celebrate camaraderie, create lasting memories and reflect on the friendships the class of 2025 have built over the years. This moment was bittersweet, as a chapter of the seniors’ lives will soon come to a close, leaving them with excitement for the future and nostalgia for the times they shared.
