Based on the best-selling series made famous by Veronica Roth, Divergent hits theaters with a spectacular adventure. Unlike your typical Hunger Games scenario, the story is set in a post-apocalyptic universe where human qualities and virtues place people into different groups, otherwise known as “factions.” Upon Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) discovering she is divergent, she must go about her life in a cautious manner. When she discovers the truth about divergents, Tris and Four (Theo James) both must discover how to survive and acknowledge the fact that they are in danger to society because they do not fit into any one group.

As the film begins, we are introduced to the main character, Beatrice Prior, a willful teenager who is about to go into aptitude testing. Within their society, the importance of life is identity, searching yourself and essentially figuring out where you belong as you are lead into the stage of adulthood. After the aptitude test, Beatrice is informed  the news of her results. As a divergent, Beatrice has a tough decision to make since she has the abilities of every faction indeed. Later on, a critical ceremony (Choosing Day) takes place and determines where each and every one of the new-comers will be placed: Abnegation(Selflessness), Candor(Honesty), Erudite(Knowledge), Amity(Kindness) or Dauntless(Courageous). Ignoring the fact that Beatrice has been placed into 3 different factions, she chooses Dauntless, where she chooses the nickname Tris. Her brother, Caleb Prior(Ansel Elgort), chooses Erudite, abandoning both their parents while leaving their original faction, Abnegation. The motto of this society will always be “Faction over Blood.”

Tris as Dauntless has to learn to jump buildings, overcome her fears and adapt to a different way of living in order to avoid being factionless. To what extent shall the participants go in order to survive and remain a part of the faction? In Dauntless, Tris and Four have a romantic uprival, and always maintain their eyes open for what is to come next. When news is heard about the conspiracy where divergents are killed, an attack takes place, where Jeanine Matthews(Kate Winslet)-leader of the Erudite-has placed a trance and Dauntless must obey and kill those in Abnegation. After all the commotion, obstacles along the way are tackled by all of those who are trying to survive.

On another perspective, the acting of this action-packed movie in on point. It plays every aspect out well, including the mood of romance. Shaileen Woodley as seen in “The Secret Life of An American Teenager” plays a huge role and nails it! All in all, this great adventure is a thrilling movie-experience!

Four, Caleb, Tris and the others are seen in the last scene as a group jumping on a train waiting to see what will happen next. Their life on the run exemplifies what is to be seen in the next film. You’ll just  have to wait for Insurgent playing in theaters in 2015!
