It’s finally summer, and there might not be anything new you can really think of doing with your friends. You’ve gone to the mall over a million times, you’ve already had sleepovers, and you’ve even gone to the beach with almost every person on your contact list. Have you considered going to the movies? The following list provides must-watch movies to see with your friends this Summer.

  • The Fault In Our Stars: Coming out on June 6th, The Fault In Our Stars is originally a book written by John Green. The love story is centered on a 16 year old girl named Hazel Grace Lancaster who has thyroid cancer that spread to her lungs and a 17 year old boy named Augustus Waters. Just as The Fault In Our Stars was a major phenomenon as a book, the movie will definitely become number 1 on the charts. Seeing this movie is recommended if you’re the type of person who loves dramatic and tragedy filled movies with a hint of romance. Take a couple of boxes of tissues – you’re going to need them!

“Even though I have seen the trailer non-stop, I still get chills down my spine each time,” freshman Tania Acosta said.

  • 22 Jump Street: A sequel to 21 Jump Street, the officers Schmidt and Jenko go back to school in this movie. After being undercover cops at a high school to investigate a drug deal in the first movie, the second movie has the pair cracking another case in a local college. The nature of the case won’t be revealed online to the public until the movie is released, so you might as well watch it yourself on June 13th!

“I have seen 21 Jump Street over a million times. The movie was well made and super hilarious. I’m expecting 22 Jump Street to be as or even more hysterical than the first one,” junior Jonathan Ferret said.

  • Transformers: Age of Extinction: The fourth movie in the Transformers series will be released on June 27th in IMAX and 3D in your local theater! This sequel will take place four years after the invasion that took place in Chicago. For the upcoming film, a completely new cast will be added, and so will a new set of Transformers. What they do is something you must find out on your own. Are you ready to see Optimus Prime and Bumblebee back in action?
  • The Purge: Anarchy: Just like the first movie of the series, The Purge, this movie is based on a special occasion that takes place annually, during  which all crime is legal for 12 hours on a specific day. The sequel is going to be based on a man that is planning to purge some thugs to avenge his son’s death. Instead of doing as he plans, he randomly rescues a stranded couple. What’s next? You can find out by watching it on July 18th!

“The first movie was so awesome, it was one of the most talked about movies when it was first released. I can’t imagine what the second part will contain, but I’m pretty sure it’ll be one of the top movies of the summer,” sophomore Jose Gonzalez said.

  • Hercules: What comes to your mind when you hear “Greek mythology?” Do you think about Zeus, Poseidon, or the demigod Hercules? Inspired by the novel “Hercules: The Thracian Wars,” this film that will be released on July 25th revolves around Hercules and his team of mercenaries to train the Thracian army to defeat an evil warlord.
  • The Giver: Originally a book written by Lois Lowry in 1993, The Giver, which comes out Aug. 15,  is based on Jonas, an eleven year old boy, who lives in a futuristic and modified world where wars, pain, and fear are nonexistent. Jonas receives memories of the old world from an elderly man known as “The Giver.”

No matter which movie you decide to see this summer, each is guaranteed to make you question your life once it ends. Take lots of money – you’re going to be needing it for your popcorn while you watch these films this summer!
