2015 MTV Video Music Awards Recap

Our Rating: B
Aug. 30 marked 2015’s installment of the highly popular MTV Video Music Awards (VMA’s). With a very similar outcome to the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, this show is more of the same.
This year Miley Cyrus was the host of the show, and it went off without a hitch, with Justin Bieber being the one of the two main guest performers whose routine went swimmingly until he broke down and started crying; then it got a tad uncomfortable. The other singers who stole the show were Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift performing a duet of sorts.
Just like most other music award shows, there is little to be surprised by, because yet again Taylor Swift took home just about everything, bagging a total of 4 awards: Video of the Year, Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Best Collaboration with Kendrick Lamar.
Another big winner of the show was Kendrick Lamar who bagged a total of three awards: Best Cinematography, Best Collaboration, alongside Swift, and Best Direction. Another name worth mentioning would be Kanye West for not only winning the Best Video With Social Message, but also The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award which was presented to him by none other than Taylor Swift. West set off a wave of emotions as he announced that he would be running for President of the United States in 2020. Although it is unsure whether Kanye West will actually be running, it would without a doubt be interesting to see him running for president.
“All in all the show was good, but…my favorite part was when Taylor Swift presented Kanye with the Vanguard award because it shows how although he upstaged her at the 2009 VMA’s, she has forgiven him and moved on,” sophomore Julie Balladares said.
Now that the show is over until next year, it’s safe to say that this edition was worth the watch, with more of the same but also some stand out moments. This one is certainly another in the record books.
