Grocery store shoppers are faced with so many choices yet most shoppers purchase name brand products regardless of the price difference.

When entering grocery or department stores, shoppers are bombarded with a variety of name brand products and their less expensive store brand counter parts that come at a fraction of the cost, but may not be exactly the same. In the modern world, people seem to be more interested with the quality of the products they purchase rather than how much it may cost – people are willing to pay a little extra for the read deal and not a generic store brand.

In the case of food and technology, name brand products are typically higher quality, although they have the drawback of a higher price tag. For some, this isn’t a problem – people are more likely to buy something better if they can. Others, however, will blindly follow names, others will factor in the price quality and taste, if it applies, which as most of the world believes will be better with the name brand. An example of pop culture influencing a products use would be every tablet based device being called an iPad regardless of whether or not it is an actual iPad.

“I think name brands are better, you get more when you pay more that’s how I see it, and you certainly feel better wearing names instead of generic, ” senior Nick Ruiz said.

However, some may argue that there is no difference in the quality of the store brand product which can be just as good as a name brand product. Also, some people thing that the consumer is only led to believe that the name brand is better due to more advertising and pop culture use or the product being endorsed by a popular figure such as Beats by Dr. Dre.

“It really doesn’t matter to me if something’s name brand or not – I pretty much wear the first thing that I find in my closet,” sophomore Roberto Nieves said.

If you’re paying more for a product, you are most likely paying for a higher quality product and if you’re paying less, your’re probably not going to get the best product on the market. Some people ignore the price tag and simply purchase products because of their name and will probably receive higher quality products although its a matter of opinion whether or not there is difference between generic and name, you’ll have to find that out for yourself.
