Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Location: 230 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables, FL 33134
Preparing dinner day after day, the typical family becomes bored after eating the same old thing. There is a simple solution to this problem, though, for relief is just around the corner. In this case, it is a new restaurant on Miracle Mile, namely, Emmy’s Squared Pizza. This may sound like an average pizza joint, but instead, it is an upscale restaurant that just happens to serve delicious pizza. It is the place to go when looking for attractive ambience, great food and friendly service.
Emmy’s Squared was originally founded in Brooklyn, New York, as a small local business. However, since 2016, it has expanded to multiple other cities, including Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. and Nashville. For those craving pizza, instead of gravitating towards businesses such as Dominos or Pizza Hut, this restaurant offers the usual pizza combinations and a customizable option, too. Yes, diners can choose their own favorite toppings so that their pizza is just right for them. Plus, the Detroit style pizzas are thick and cheesy with a rectangular shape and crispy crust.
“Trying new restaurants is always a really interesting experience. You do not really have any expectations when you walk in, but by the time you are done, you have already determined whether or not you enjoyed the place. I always enjoy trying new foods and learning about different cultures when I am out to eat,” sophomore Nathaniel Woods said.
ZIA FRIES
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5)
Many diners prefer to start their meal with an appetizer, and Emmy’s offers a variety of shareable plates. From wings to roasted cauliflower, they have something for everyone. However, the zia fries particularly stand out, described as waffle fries with bacon, scallions, seasoned blanco cheddar queso and lastly, topped with ranch. They are as good as they sound, and the serving itself is enough to be a meal of its own. Considering the portion size, it was a real bargain being priced $15. The gooey cheese is melted to perfection, and the crispy fries dare one’s taste buds to have just one more. It is almost impossible to stop eating them, even though a pizza is on the way.
“I love visiting new restaurants because there is always an element of surprise. You never know what you are going to like until you try it. I am definitely going to stop by Emmy’s [Square Pizza] some time to see what Detroit style pizza is like,” junior Anastasia Sanders said.
VODKA PIZZA
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5)
The vodka pizza lives up to the restaurant’s reputation for the best-of-the-best Detroit-style pizza. With homemade sauce and their signature dough made on the premises, they use the highest quality ingredients available to blow away their customers. The vodka sauce is outstanding, as it is tangy and spicy, but not overpowering. Combined with mozzarella cheese, ricotta cheese, mushrooms and chunks of fried chicken, this creation is undoubtedly unusual, but delicious. Nothing is left to be desired.
Other diners can be seen enjoying other types of pizzas, and by the looks on their faces, they are also experiencing a taste of heaven. Although the price, being $16, may be comparable to other businesses, the quality of Emmy’s is certainly superior. Unfortunately, since one can only eat so much, another trip to this restaurant will be necessary to sample even more of the menu offerings.
“I have never tried Detroit style pizza, but Emmy’s [Square Pizza] sounds like just the right place to get it from. The next time I am on the mile, I will eat there. If it is as good as everyone says it is, I might have found my new favorite kind of pizza,” junior Cesar Romero said.
SALMON BACON LETTUCE TOMATO
⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4)
If pizza is not the choice of the night, Emmy’s also serves sandwiches, burgers, pasta and salads. The salmon BLT, complete with a huge slice of dill pickle, is a delightful switch from the ordinary. The miso-marinated salmon is nicely grilled and topped with bacon, lettuce, tomato, a tangy cream sauce and served on a toasted pretzel bun. The sauce may be too tangy for those who prefer a milder level of spice. However, it may be just right for someone who enjoys more heat. Being priced at $17 dollars, it seems to be quite reasonable for the health-minded diner. The sandwich itself is flavorful but hard to handle, as it falls apart rather quickly. Besides being a nutritious choice, it is just the right size and satisfies the expectations of the diner.
“Going out to eat is definitely a great experience. I get to spend time with friends, taste new foods and make memories. It is always a fun time. Emmy’s [Square Pizza] will be the next restaurant I try, and hopefully the pizza will live up to what I have heard,” junior Adriana Garcia said.
Few can resist Emmy’s Square Pizza’s great flavors, signature Detroit style of pizza and exceptional service. One regular size pizza is large enough for two or more people depending on their appetites. It is the ideal choice for those with a large stomach and a limited budget. This new establishment on the mile is destined to become a popular spot, with countless families still searching for a place to spend an enjoyable evening together. Without having to cook for themselves, they can enjoy a variety of savory bites from Emmy’s Squared Pizza any night of the week.
