Brain Food
Everyone knows the saying: “you are what you eat,” so why not eat “smart” foods? There are so many brain foods out there, and so many great ways to incorporate them into your diet. Here are just a few:
Oats: Your brain practically runs on glucose, which oats have more than enough of. Oats not only help fuel your brain but help keep your mind sharp for several hours. Plus, with so many ways to enjoy oatmeal, it’s almost impossible to hate it! Click here to check out some oatmeal recipes that might just change your opinion on oats forever.
Walnuts: Walnuts are a great source of antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids, which are great for improving mental performance. There is no limit to the range of foods that taste great with walnuts, but just in case you’re short on ideas, check out walnuts.org.
Egg: Egg yolk is a great source of choline, which helps enhance memory. In fact, all protein-rich foods, like eggs, can help improve your brain’s cognitive performance! So what better way to get your body’s share of choline than during breakfast. Check out Shape’s online health site for several quick and easy egg recipes.

Lentils: There is nothing like lentils to boost your brain power! Lentils are great for both preventing brain function impairments and helping boost brain processes. Plus, this legume tastes great in salads and soups, so feel free to add this to almost all your meals. As a legume packed with folate, it’s a very important brain food.
Spinach: If Popeye has taught us anything, it’s that nothing makes you
stronger than spinach! Studies show that eating green leafy vegetables, such as spinach, can help prevent cognitive decline. So, never forget to add a little green to your diet!

Eating healthy is actually a lot easier than it may seem. By simply adding one of these brain foods to your diet every day you’re one step closer to a healthier and brainier lifestyle!
