On Friday night, the Michael M. Krop Lightning was no match for the Cavaliers. The second game of the season took place at Curtis Park at 7:30 p.m., and we crushed Krop with an astonishing score of 30-0!

“The game was a lot easier for the football players this time – Go Cavs! I can’t wait for the game next week against Columbus,” freshman Maria Aparicio said.

The game was a one sided match – the Cavaliers accomplished two touchdowns by Keino Mike and Vashon Waiters (#17) with a 26 yard touchdown catch from Shaquery Wilson and one three point field goal by Lorenzo Grigio, all in the first quarter; one could literally hear the sighs of defeat from the Krop team. The quarter ended with the score at 16-0. In the second quarter, Andres Saldivar had an eight yard touchdown catch from Waiters. The second quarter’s ending score was an electrifying 23-0.

“We just have to get better on and off the field – offense, defense and special teams. We have a lot of work to do. The idea for today was ‘don’t take it for granted and play every play like it was your last, so Monday we’ll be ready for Columbus,’” junior and defensive end Shakur Cooper (#9) said.

The Cavalier defense was tight, not allowing any of the Lightning’s plays to get within 12 yards of Cavalier territory. The Lightning was struggling to get any offense in against the stingy Cavalier defense. During the third quarter, Cavalier Andres Saldivar (#19) had an 8 yard touchdown reception from Waiters; the third quarter ended with a score of 30-0. In the third and fourth quarters, Coach Pollard rotated a lot of the bench into the game for some crucial playing time. The dominant defensive play was anchored by the defensive duo of Shakur Cooper (#9) and Jared Mcgahee (#51), who were in the Krop backfield all night long. The final ending score for the night was whopping 30-0; the Cavaliers crushed the Lightning.

“We’re better than last week, but we’re not where we need to be. If we played how we played tonight against Columbus, we would have lost. We’ll need everyone’s support to go ahead and pull this off against Columbus, and the more people there to support the Cavalier nation, the better,” Coach Pollard said.

After this second victory, the Cavalier Nation cannot wait for the next game against our rival team, Columbus, on September 12, 2014 in Tropical Park, at 7:30pm. Be there!
