The boys and girls tennis teams aced their matches against the Ferguson Falcons on Tuesday, March 3. They played at the Biltmore tennis courts in their 5th match of the season. Both teams did very well and are hoping to continue during the season and get some more wins under their belts. The have high hopes and expectations for the season after their impressive performance at states last year. They know it will be a difficult task, but they are all ready for the challenge and are willing to put work into it.

“I think our match against Ferguson went well, considering we have such a young team this season. We definitely have a lot to learn, and I think we should be ready for districts if we continue to play the way we have against other teams this season. My hope is that we make it to states again, but it will be hard, since our team is so young and the other teams have much more experience,” senior Cyrus Zeledon said.

The girls did well in a close match and still managed to win in four games out of five. The girls only hold one loss this season and still have some young players that the team hopes will continue improving in the future. The girls are very confident with their team and their chances to get to and do well in states. It was an impressive performance, with the girls running all over the court to ensure their win. They played well and are still preparing for the some more difficult games as the season progresses.

“The girls played well. It will be close at districts between Gables and Miami High for 1st and 2nd place,” coach Weiner said.

The boys lost, unfortunately, but still have some more games during the season to add some wins to their record and still only have two losses. With five starting freshmen, the team is very hopeful about its chances in the future and is still looking at an impressive performance this year. They have still had some solid performances during the year and are practicing very hard to improve their game. With a lot of potential and with the team gaining experience every game, the boys team is still a force to be reckoned with.

The tennis team has had a very impressive season so far and is trying to match or even do better than last year’s team. With some good young players ready to get experience, this team is definitely one to watch in the coming years.
