On Tuesday, March 31, Gables’s badminton team lost against rival Southwest. Southwest beat Gables 7-3. One of the most anticipated games every year for the team, the Southwest match is one the team prepares for for a long time. This being the only home game, its always a big deal for the team, considering they only have one home game every year.

“It was a really tough game. Southwest is a well trained team and they are very aggressive. They are our biggest competition,” senior captain Francis Perez said.

Girls singles players, Lauren Kerzner and Gabrielle Saliamonas, had both won their matches and girls doubles players Andrea Avila and Sophia Castro as well. Last year, the team had lost to southwest 9-1, this year, winning two more matches is an improvement.

“Personally, our game went not so good, our rival team got better and it showed us that we needed to practice more and work on some new things but playing at home is always a great experience,” junior girls doubles player Gaitana Jaramillo said.

The team will keep practicing for the rest of the season until they play Southwest again in divisionals and GMAC in the up coming weeks. By then, the team plans on having more wins that the past couple of games and last year. With the season coming to an end, the team is set to give it their all during practice and upcoming games.
