Lady Cavaliers Fall Short to Ferguson
On Wednesday, Aug. 23, the girls’ volleyball team faced off against a 2015 state qualifying team, Ferguson, at 3:30 p.m. in the Gables gym. Sadly the girls battled and lost all three sets, 6-25, 18-25 and 12-25.
“Going into the game against a team who went to states was very daunting for our first game. We just wanted to go out and do our best. I believed we achieved our goal,” Coach De La Vega said.
During the first set, The Falcons started off with a fast pace and caught the Lady Cavs off guard. The next two sets Gables adjusted to the speedy momentum of the game. Ferguson had a D1 commit, which was a whole new experience for the girls to play against someone at that level. Nicole Cuellar and Ximena Puig were key players in blocking many of the opponents’ hits. On the offensive side, Isabella Morina and Carolina Novy were on their toes and were able to score several points.
“For the next game we need to communicate more on the court and keep the momentum throughout the game,” sophomore Isabella Morina said.
The team is definitely working on their game to hopefully achieve their goal of making it to districts. With teams such as, Coral Park and Braddock standing in their way, these girls are definitely ready to spike it up. The Lady Cavalier’s next game is Aug. 29 against Lourdes at 3:30 p.m. in the Gables gym.
