On Friday, May 15, 2015, Pitch Perfect 2 was released in theaters. A sequel to Pitch Perfect, the Barden Bellas embarrassed themselves and the a capella community on live television, in front of the President of the United States. To regain respect and their ranking, the Bellas have to win an international competition or the Bellas will be history. Their adventure is full of surprises, bonding and singing.
Much like the first movie, Pitch Perfect 2 was full of catchy covers to songs like “Lollipop” by MIKA. It also had the returning favorites like Fat Amy and the a capella announcers with their crude humor and one liners. However, after watching Pitch Perfect, fans were expecting more. A lot of the jokes fell flat and viewers were hoping for more singing.
“I was let down by the sequel. It was awkward and cheesy in a bad way. Also, there was not enough singing,” sophomore Sofia Quevedo said.
Fans were upset that the relationship focused on was not between Beca and Jesse, but instead the awkward pairing of Jesse’s magician friend and the Bella’s over eager freshman legacy.
Make sure to watch the first Pitch Perfect first; it will make it easier to understand and enjoy. Pitch Perfect 2 is now showing at Sunset Place (South Miami) and Cinépolis (Coconut Grove).
